What is worth the read?
There are so many books being published lately for educators of MLs, that it’s hard to know what to read or dismiss. There isn’t much time left in a day for reading in my life, so it has to be GOOD. Our ESL department purchased books for us frequently, and provided some professional development with them as well. For me, the book that changed the way I organize how to share the ESL world with teachers was the 2018 edition of The Six Principles for Exemplary Teaching of English Learners, Grades K-12. This book is published by TESOL Press and written by an International Writing Team that consists of Deborah Short, Lead Writer, Helene Becker, Nancy Cloud, Andrea Hellman and Linda New Levine, with a foreword by Jim Cummins. This book is divided into 5 chapters, with plenty of background information and theory, but my favorite chapter is Chapter 3. This is the meat and potatoes of the chapter.
